Living Fully Alive

There’s an old saying that goes something like this, “It’s the best thing since sliced bread.”

how to lose weight on ketoWell, Keto has exploded onto the scene and may have just made sliced bread a thing of the past. Literally.

In order to fully explain the insane benefits of the Ketogenic Diet let me give you a brief background on me. And the reason I want to give you my background is because if I can do this and have success….ANYONE can. Because before Keto I tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked.

In my early 20’s after I escaped college living on Pizza and Beer I had a few pounds to lose. Ok, like 50 pounds to lose. I joined a local gym, hired a trainer and about 4 months later I looked like a rock star. I probably maintained that for 10 years or so but then “life” happened as it does to all of us and things started to go down hill. Ok I got fat.

The older we get the more our metabolism slows down and even when I was eating healthy and exercising I found it almost impossible to lose weight. Between the age of around 32 to my current age of 42 I pretty much yo-yo dieted non stop. I could never find something that really worked for me, or rather that I could really stick to. Diets are hard, but even when I stuck to something I found it incredibly hard to really lose the weight I wanted.  And then one day I discovered the holy grail of dieting – KETO. Now many of you probably remember the days of the Atkins Diet craze. One of the reasons Atkins caught on was because you could eat Burgers (no bun), Bacon and Chicken Wings and STILL lose weight. Crazy right? Well the science behind Atkins and Keto is very similar however Keto takes things in a very different direction that is directly aimed at improving your health by focusing on healthy fats that have a million different benefits to them that I will list below.

So what exactly is Ketosis? Let me break it down for you. Let’s think about a campfire. Depending on how and what you build your fire with is going to determine how long the fire burns for right? When I build a fire I typically start with small pieces of kindling wood to get the fire going and then I put the larger logs on. The problem with kindling is that if you aren’t careful it burns out quickly and then your fire dies out. The larger logs take longer to catch on fire but once you get them burning they keep the fire going for hours.

So how does knowing how a campfire works help to show you how you can have unlimited energy, fat loss and focus literally every single day?Ketogenic Diet Plan

Well, the way our body works is that there are 3 types of fuel that run our body every day. Carbs, Fat and Protein. Each of them work very differently inside our body. Carbohydrates are something many of us crave and love, but the problem with most carbohydrates (some complex carbs being the exception) is that our body burns them very quickly and we have a quick burst of energy but it crashes rather quickly. Top that off with the fact that a good amount of the carbs we eat end up getting stored as fat because we don’t actually use them for energy.  Have you ever gone out to lunch and had a few slices of pizza and then notice how you’re completely exhausted a few hours after? The biggest problem with carbohydrates is that they often give us a craving for more carbohydrates even when we aren’t hungry and that adds up to more pounds on our body.

The next thing is Protein. And many of us know that Protein is the building blocks for our muscles, however if not eaten at the right time with the right combination of foods often protein actually blocks us from losing fat.

Last but not least is fat. And believe it or not, fat is the key to the ketogenic diet. Many of you just read that and immediately thought to yourself, “Oh man that’s the worst one.” Ironically you couldn’t be more wrong. How does that old saying go? “You can’t always believe what you read?” Well, millions of us have, and sadly we’ve been lied to for many years. It all started back in 1967 when an organization named The Sugar Research Foundation paid 3 Harvard scientists a very large amount of money to publish a review of heart health studies. They asked them to create a series of studies that painted a picture of sugar being less unhealthy than it really is and to make fat look like it’s the villain. Well guess what? sadly it worked. According to Stanton Glantz a professor of medicine at the University of California San Francisco, for decades these studies painted fat as the bad guy and intentionally took the spotlight off of the dangers of sugar.

Here’s the amazing thing about fat in our bodies, if you can catch it on fire like the campfire it will give you the longest and best source of energy along with providing a number of other benefits. Basically a keto diet enables our bodies to burn stored fat for fuel instead of glucose (sugar or carbs). This equates to quick and efficient weight loss. Who doesn’t want that?

Here are just a few examples of the MANY benefits of a ketogenic diet:

  1. Weight loss (crazy, fast weight loss especially when combined with exercise)
  2. Reduced risk for Type 2 Diabetes
  3. Improved blood pressure
  4. Protection against cancer
  5. Protection against heart disease
  6. Used for treatment in seizures especially for kids who are non responsive to drugs
  7. Treatment of neurological conditions such as  Alzheimers and Parkinsons
  8. Fewer hunger pains and less food cravings
  9. Boosts longevity
  10. Alleviates symptoms of anxiety and depression
  11. Improves cognition and mental acuity in the brain (Think super clear focus)
  12. Improves symptoms related to Autism and Asbergers
  13. Reduce migraine headaches
  14. Regulates hormones and the nervous system
  15. Increased mitochondrial function

Pretty impressive list isn’t it ? The best part is that this isn’t some B.S. diet fad. Hundreds of thousands of people have been impacted by the benefits of Ketosis and that number continues to increase daily as more and more people discover the benefits of being in nutritional ketosis.

I’ll go into greater detail in future blog posts about “why” Ketosis impacts the above things but for now let’s continue to cover the basics to get you started. Ketosis is so incredible that endurance athletes are turning away from conventional high-carb strategies and adopting this way of eating because it boosts physical stamina and endurance. So for the average person that isn’t an endurance athlete one of the main benefits you will reap is significantly increased energy levels !

Ketosis has literally changed my life. I feel like a new person and I want people to know about it’s benefits. I use to walk around feeling tired and lethargic all the time. I had no energy, I felt depressed. I was overweight and rarely had any energy to exercise. Now I’m waking up at 5am every day, WIDE awake with tons of energy. I exercise for a few hours and then start to work with continued energy and clear focus. I can honestly say that Ketosis has literally changed every part of my life. I feel FREE ! I feel ALIVE !

So, how do you do this you ask? Well there are some do’s and don’ts associated with the Ketogenic Diet.

Here are your DO’s: Full Fat Cheeses, Heavy Whipping Creams, Real Butter (Organic Grass Fed), Coconut Oil (Organic), Avocados, Olive Oil (Be VERY careful what brand you use, my preferred brand is linked), Fattier Cuts of Meat (Grass Fed), Eggs (Pasture Raised), Macadamia Nuts, MCT Oil, Fish, Sardines, Fattier Lunch Meats, Bacon, Veggies (Kale, Spinach, Broccoli, Cauliflower, etc.), Pink Himalayan Salt/Sea Salt, and LOTS of water.

Now I specifically put “organic” next to some of the above items. This explanation really requires an entirely different blog post and I will start posting a series of videos after this blog but you really need to use organic for ALL of the above items. Now don’t tell me organic is too expensive because that’s B.S. ! Go to your local farmers market to start with, research local farms in your area – that’s the best place to shop. One of my favorite resources to find high quality local food is Eat Wild. Some other great organic options that are also very affordable are Aldi’s, Trader Joe’s, Costco, and even Walmart has started carrying a quality and affordable line of organic foods. The reason I hyperlinked some of the above items is because I have been studying food for about 5 years now and the brands that I linked are in my opinion by far the healthiest options. Be smart when it comes to your food choices, your life literally depends on it.

Ok so here are your DON’Ts:

Starchier Veggies (Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, etc.), Fruits (VERY limited amounts), Grains, Chips, Cookies, Crackers, Rice, Pasta, Cereals, Juices, and Sodas. In short if it has carbs don’t eat it. But guess what? the good news is there are some amazing new recipes that have been developed that will help satisfy your carb cravings that are Keto approved such as Keto Pizza, Keto Muffins, Keto Chicken Nuggets and much more.

Some of my favorite resources for Keto recipes are Ditch The Carbs,, and my personal “Public” Facebook page, which I’ll start posting daily recipes to help everyone be successful on their Keto Journey!

In order to help everyone set themselves up for success I will start doing regular Facebook LIVE videos on my page to help everyone with any questions they may have. The first Facebook LIVE will be this coming Monday, May 15th at 8pm EST. If you miss the live broadcast you can watch it anytime after it’s broadcast. I’m very passionate about this and I want to help absolutely anyone that needs it.

BUT WAIT! There’s one more thing. One final recommendation that I personally do that has helped me tremendously in my Keto success journey is the use of Exogenous Ketones. Exo… WHAT you say? This is especially crucial when first starting a Ketogenic Diet. When you start a ketogenic diet and attempt to get into nutritional ketosis just by changing your eating habits your body will go into glucose depravation mode and well it’s not pretty. Taking exogenous ketones not only bridges this gap, but also puts you immediately into Ketosis so you start burning fat literally within an hour of taking the exogenous ketones. Exogenous Ketones are a supplement that has been studied extensively by experts such as Dr. Dominic D’Agnostino, Biohacker Dave Asprey, Health and Fitness Guru Ben Greenfield,  and many more.

If you’re interested in learning more about exogenous ketones you can email me directly at and I will share with you which brand is my favorite and why and even give you a link to purchase a 5 day sampler “experience” pack to see if you think exogenous ketones are right for you before you spend money on buying a larger supply. They were a game changer for me and I highly recommend them. The 5 day sampler pack is only $35 bucks and trust me it’s VERY worth it.

Make sure to visit me on Facebook for further info on how to be successful on a Keto diet. I hope that even one person who reads this will experience the radical life change I have by adopting a Ketogenic lifestyle.

Godspeed friends !
